Our success comes from the power of human connection and our linkage to the community!

Volunteers are what allows Surfrider Spirit Sessions to provide its unique culturally and environmentally aligned programs to help at-risk youth in our communities. Without the dedication and commitment of community volunteers our programs couldn’t exist!

When you become a mentor for Surfrider Spirit Sessions you become part of our Surf Ohana. You will be paired one-on one with a same gender youth who you will surf with and go through the eight week program with.  As a mentor, you are supported in a group setting and provided a safe and comfortable place on the beach, program activities, a rashguard and surfboard, lunch and of course a youth. All you need to do is show up, be yourself and have a fun loving attitude. Learn more about mentoring.

You don’t have to be a surfer to be part of our Surf Ohana. Many talented professionals and compassionate individuals have contributed their time and talents to help our kids.

Volunteer Opportunities

Surfrider Spirit Sessions utilizes volunteers in a variety of ways on and off the beach, other than mentoring youth.  We are always looking for talented and passionate people who can help us in a variety of different ways, including:

  • Photography and videography at the beach and at events or for special projects

  • Event coordinators and workers

  • Fundraising

  • Writers for grants, website, and special projects

  • Administrative support

  • Guest speakers, presenters, or special projects/excursions for youth

  • Leadership on our Board of Directors

  • Connect us to new partners, supporters, collaborators, and donors

Please contact us if you would like more information on how you can volunteer.

Surfrider Spirit Sessions’ volunteers are a rich resource of positive role models for the disadvantaged and at-risk youth in the program. In return, these young people are an inspiration to us. I see hope for a better future as these young people grow and mature.
